The Lorax
Day 1The ecosystem services unit will begin with students discovering that we use a lot of the Earth's resources and sometimes we use them up too fast. Dr. Seuss understood the importance of our trees and resources when writing The Lorax and brilliantly used the story of the Trufulla trees as a way to inform others of the dangers of using our natural resources up too fast. When reading the story to students remember to tell them to think about the important key ideas from the book. These key ideas could be about the trufulla trees being cut down or animals' homes being destroyed. There are plenty of key ideas from the story that relate to the topic of sustainability as well as ecosystem services. After reading the story ask follow up questions to connect The Lorax to our own environment here on Earth. Here are some examples of follow up questions:
